Proactive Healing: How Vincent Vargas and TMRW Battalion are Changing the Conversation on PTSD

For Army Veteran and actor Vincent Vargas, the mission didn’t end when he left the service. From elite deployments with the 75th Ranger Regiment to building a career in writing, film, and advocacy, Vargas has always led from the front. Today, through his nonprofit TMRW Battalion and partnership with REE Medical, he’s dedicated to changing how Veterans approach PTSD and wellness.

Facing PTSD: Vincent’s Story

After multiple combat deployments, Vincent’s transition from active duty wasn’t as smooth as expected. While he dove headfirst into civilian life—working as a prison guard, then as a U.S. Border Patrol agent—underlying struggles soon surfaced.

“Two months after leaving Afghanistan, I found myself sitting at a stoplight in Arizona and suddenly scanning rooftops, thinking, ‘This would be a terrible sniper position,’” Vincent shared. “It was then I realized, this is deeper than I thought.”

Like many Veterans, Vincent initially masked these challenges with work and distractions. But once those distractions faded—during his divorce and time alone—the symptoms became harder to ignore.

The Shift Toward Healing

It wasn’t until a fellow Veteran referred Vincent to a counselor specializing in EMDR therapy that he began to understand the root of his struggles. “At first, I didn’t want to admit I was dealing with PTSD,” Vincent said. “But eventually, I realized that the old model of ‘suck it up and move on’ wasn’t going to cut it anymore.”

Through EMDR and other treatments—including breathwork, meditation, fitness, and even traditional healing practices—Vincent began piecing together a new approach to wellness, one rooted in proactivity rather than crisis response.

The Birth of TMRW Battalion

From these personal revelations, TMRW Battalion was born. The nonprofit focuses on addressing the top five contributors to Veteran crisis:

  • Trauma
  • Addiction
  • Pain
  • Relationships
  • Finances

“What we’re really doing is mitigating crisis before it happens,” Vincent explained. “We’re teaching Veterans how to live healthier lives so that when life throws curveballs, they have tools to fall back on.”

TMRW Battalion provides Veterans and First Responders with practical strategies for navigating post-service challenges, while also connecting them to life-changing resources—including counseling, wellness retreats, and alternative therapies.

Changing Culture, One Conversation at a Time

A key tenet of Vincent’s mission is dismantling toxic narratives around mental health. “We need to stop glorifying harmful behaviors like excessive drinking,” he said. “For years, I was part of that culture too. But when I realized alcohol was contributing to more harm than good, I chose to step away—and now I’ve been sober for five years.”

For Vincent, addressing PTSD isn’t just about personal healing—it’s about reshaping the collective mindset. “It’s about teaching Veterans that resilience doesn’t mean silence,” he emphasized. “It means equipping yourself with tools and having a support network that holds you accountable.”

Building a Community of Accountability

Through TMRW Battalion’s “Light The Fuse” initiative, Veterans are invited into a structured community that prioritizes action and accountability. Participants set personal goals, receive mentorship, and commit to regular check-ins—not just to share struggles, but to actively work on solutions.

“We’re not just a place to vent,” Vincent said. “We’re about taking action. If you show up, we expect you to put in the work to improve your situation.”

Partnering for a Purpose

REE Medical is proud to partner with TMRW Battalion in amplifying PTSD awareness and providing Veterans with trusted resources. As REE Medical Director of Partnerships Nick Todd, himself a Veteran, shared, “We’ve seen firsthand how access to the right tools—whether it’s medical documentation or community support—can change lives.”

How You Can Help

TMRW Battalion is growing—but like many nonprofits, it depends on grassroots support.

“If you want to help us make an impact, whether it’s through corporate sponsorships, donations, or simply sharing our mission, we’d love to hear from you,” Vincent said.
